Springfield, Ill…Making his debut in the AMA Pro Grand National Twins class, rookie sensation Brad Baker skillfully piloted his Lloyd Brothers Motorsports TeamHurtByAccident.com Ducati to a strong 5th place finish at the Springfield Mile.
Hitting the track for practice, Baker immediately made his presence known, by not only taking the top slot, but by setting the fastest lap of the day at 34.932 seconds. Moving on, Baker continued his fast pace in both qualifying sessions and earned the pole position for the first heat.
Powering off the grid in the heat race, Baker took the win and earned the pole for the main – quite an accomplishment for a rookie in his first ever mile race as an Expert ranked rider.
“The Lloyd Brothers really had my Ducati hooked up,” said Baker. “I had high hopes of being able to win the Main. However, while that didn’t exactly go the way I wanted, all in all, we had a good day,”
The minute the Green Flag fell for the Main, Baker was once again on the gas, taking over the lead in Lap 3. Dicing back and forth, he led a total of nine laps in the first 15 of the race.
‘Things were really looking good,” he explained. “We were just perfect until the last few laps when we developed a bad head shake. It made it a little tough to hang on to and I had to cut back a little on my speed and settle for a 5th place finish.
“Brad is an outstanding racer,” say team owners David and Michael Lloyd. “His determination is obvious and to be able to do this well in his first Expert event says it all.”
With just one race down, Baker is sitting in a three way tie for 3rd place, just 8 points out of the lead.
“Next up is the Hartford Half-Mile at Hartford Motor Speedway in Hartford, Michigan on Saturday, June 11,” continues Baker. “It will be the first time we have ever raced there, but when race time comes, we will be ready to carry the TeamHurtByAccident.com colors right into Victory Lane.” “Brad ran a really good race,” says attorney C.J. Czaia. “We partnered with Lloyd Brothers Motorsports for 2011 as a marketing partner. They are supporting a season long fund raiser in aid of the Road Racing World Flat Track Air Fence Fund. Safety is a major concern in motorcycle racing and having air fence at every track really helps insure the safety of the racers. One of our goals at TeamHurtByAccident.com is safety and we are pleased to be working with Lloyd Brothers Motorsports to insure that this happens.
